To think that we are already coming up on this holiday, a day to remember those things we are thankful for in life, work, family...Thanksgiving 2020
To think that we are already coming up on this holiday, a day to remember those things we are thankful for in life, work, family and faith. Some people may be working a little harder to find things to be thankful for this year - 2020. The news, elections, violent events, social media posts that divide rather than bring together, and varying degrees of community lockdown because of CV-19 have all squeezed hope, joy, peace, and thankfulness right out of so many people's minds and life.
One writer has rightfully noted, “…even in the worst of times there are beauties, and in the best of times there are horrors…and God has something to say about all of them.” (Piper) One of the things that helps us walk through difficult times is maintaining a heart attitude and position of thanksgiving and gratitude. Even in the darkest of moments or circumstances giving thanks to our Heavenly Father knowing that He sees, knows and hears our prayers and requests, opens the way for peace to come and a heart able to walk through the valley and come out the other side.
Even if people don't celebrate Thanksgiving as an official holiday they can take the time to stop, think about those things and people in their lives they are thankful for and express gratitude. So while many are struggling with being out of work, struggling with the loss of a loved one, struggling with health, with politics, with news - struggling with so much -STOP take a breath - and take the time to get control over it all and express thanksgiving (inwardly to God if you believe, but also to people around you for their kindnesses). You will begin to feel better about your life and circumstances. Thanksgiving is not just a day, it should be a way of life. Show more
